STUDENTS from Matravers School in Westbury are celebrating completing the tough Ten Tors challenge on Dartmoor.

Nine year 10 and 12 students from the school took part in the two-day trek, which saw them covering up to 45 miles across the moor.

Teacher Dave Brewer said; "It isn't a race, the challenge is getting around the course as a team.

"They all did really well to finish as it isn't easy."

The students taking part are split into teams of six.

Three of the older Matravers students joined pupils from other schools to tackle the 45-mile trek, while the year 10 students did the 35-mile trek.

The Ten Tors challenge has been running since 1960 but the last time a team from Matravers took part was nine years ago.

The idea for the challenge came from the army and officers still oversee the participants, checking their kit at the start and finish and carrying out spot checks at any time during the two days.
