Carnival royalty selection was a family affair last Saturday when the mother of the Butterfly Queen was later chosen as the new Trowbridge Carnival Queen.

Ten-year-old Bianca Sinclair was chosen as the town's new Butterfly Queen during the afternoon contest, only to be joined by her mother Emma, as carnival Queen at the early evening selections.

Emma Sinclair, who beat the other contestants to the title sash and crown, is no stranger to the limelight she is also the cover girl on the recent Virgin Mobile catalogue.

The mother and daughter, who live in Gladstone Road, will take pride of place in the town's carnival in September and are looking forward to their other "royal duties" prior to the week of festivities.

Mrs Sinclair, 28, said: "I didn't plan to enter, but was approached by the organisers when I went with Bianca during the afternoon selections.

"I am looking forward to joining my daughter in the carnival duties."

Carnival princess Amie Holbey is also following in family footsteps her cousin Tiffany Cover was last year's princess.

Amie was selected during the afternoon contest at the town's civic hall.

She said: "At least I can look to Tiffany for advice so I am looking forward to my duties."

This year's Butterfly Princess is no stranger to her royal duties seven-year-old Sophie Medway has also been voted as Southwick Flower show princess.
