A FLAG of St George with great meaning to its owner was stolen from outside a North Bradley home on Monday, June 3.
Roger Nicholson was presented with the specially made flag by a friend as a gift when he retired from the army.
He said: "I was terribly upset, the flag was special and I want to have it back."
Mr Nicholson believes the flag might have been taken by England supporters.
He said: "If they were just drunk and showing off then I would just ask that they bring it back.
"If it was vindictive then they are just sad, especially on such a day, when everyone is celebrating our country."
Mr Nicholson had hung the flag on his garage door, next to a Union Jack, to mark both the World Cup and the Golden Jubilee.
The thieves had to scale a five-bar gate in broad daylight to take it.
Pc Bob Gabbott, of Trowbridge Police, said: "He feels it may still be in the local area.
"It could be that some over enthusiastic football fan may have acquired it to wear whilst watching the football match and it may still be around somewhere."
The flag, which is 2ft by 3ft, was taken from the house between 10am and 5pm.
