OVER 80 per cent of people living close to a planned new road near Trowbridge are opposed to it, according to a recent survey.
The Staverton link road scheme, which has outline planning permission, was condemned by 87 per cent of people who returned the survey, carried out by Liberal Democrat councillors.
District councillor, Trevor Carbin, said that residents were not just opposing the road but also its design.
He said: "If it does go ahead we must at least make sure the scheme improves road safety rather than making a bad situation worse."
The road is part of a housing scheme planned by developer, Persimmon Homes.
The road would run behind properties on School Lane and New Terrace, coming out on the B3105.
