THIS is the Evening Advertiser's Race for Life team who will be tackling the 5 km course at Lydiard Park on Sunday to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

More than 2,000 women will be joining them in Swindon's third Race for Life, a national event that has so far raised a total of £20 million for research into cancers that affect women.

The race is a women only event and has become known for bringing together women from all walks of life.

Amanda Fenton, Evening Advertiser switchboard supervisor, will be running in her first Race for Life but has not been doing any training.

She said: "I'll be walking the course and probably looking for volunteers to carry me! I wanted to do the race because I've known people who have been affected by cancer and it really brings it home to you."

The Evening Advertiser team has been offered three months free membership at Trax Gym in Sheppard Street, to help them in their training for the race.

Ben Worrall, gym in-structor at Trax Gym, said: "The race might be a start for people to do exercise and some people could carry on from there.

"Working out is still important even if it's just for your general health and for later in life."

This year, the organisers of the Swindon Race hope to raise £150,000 to help reach the national target of £12 million.
