A SWINDON MP was today ringing the tills at a Highworth charity shop to highlight National Volunteers Week.

Michael Wills, MP for North Swindon, was due to join volunteers at the Sue Ryder Charity Shop this afternoon.

He said: "As the MP for North Swindon I am keen to be a part of National Volunteers Week.

"Volunteers in North Swindon work very hard to improve the lives of others and we should all recognise their valuable contribution.

"More volunteers are needed and I hope by highlighting the work they do, more people will come forward to find out about the huge variety of volunteering opportunities available in Swindon."

Later today, Mr Wills was due to host a public meeting for the residents of Upper Stratton.

The meeting starts at 7.15pm in the Meadowcroft Community Centre in Addison Crescent.

Mr Wills said: "I have been contacted by a number of Upper Stratton residents who have been concerned about the level of crime and anti-social behaviour in their community.

"Residents are also concerned about the level of facilities available to them and I am holding this meeting to give them the opportunity to air their views so together we can find ways to make improvements."
