SWINDON athletes are doing their bit to make sure the Golden Jubilee festivities run and run.
St Joseph's School pupil Peter Sharp is taking part in a baton relay to honour the royal occasion and will be passing through Swindon on June 17.
Peter, 14, who plays for Swindon Cricket Club, said: "I feel really proud to have been chosen. It's really exciting."
The relay began its epic journey from Buckingham Palace on Commonwealth Day, March 11, and travelled to 20 Commonwealth before returning to the UK yesterday.
The event is launching the 17th Commonwealth Games as well as paying homage to Her Majesty.
Local Asda workers Deirdre O'Connell, 34, and Nick Harwood, 34, will also be carrying the baton in Swindon.
Store manager Mark Pollard said: "Deirdre is a remarkable person and Nick is quick thinking.
"We are very proud that they are representing the store and will be supporting them on their way."
