CLOSEST finish of the day came in the Division Two game between Highworth and Cooper-Avon Tyres.

The visitors scored 236-8, with Dave Rigby undefeated on 59. In reply, Highworth's Chris Mead (76) and Roger Miller (53) set them on their way. The last pair needed two off the last ball, and they did it in style, scoring a boundary for victory.

Division One

THE top three sides all won. Calne entertained Beanacre and some accurate bowling restricted them to 130-7 with Rob Howard scoring 34 and Paul Gilbert 37. Dave Beal took 3-31 in nine overs. Then Josh Breet's 66 and Chris Downham's 25 not out saw Calne to a comfortable seven wicket victory with 10 overs to spare.

Westinghouse were at home to winless Buscot Park and scored a daunting 245-3 thanks to Paul Bailey (42), Chris Ferris (27 not out), Tristan Francis (67) and Mat Dix (50 not out). Accurate bowling then restricted Buscot to 134-5 with a patient 64 not out from Hamish Miller as John Cleverley took 2-14 in 11 overs.

Division Two

At Nationwide visitors Swindon Civil Service scored 184-9 with Shaun Smith top scoring with 41. Will Sherwood 82 not out and Stuart Archer 77 not out then took Nationwide to a comfortable win after losing two early wickets.

Lechlade bowled hosts Minety out for 130 with David Joy taking 5-25 in seven overs and J Khan 3-28 in 15. A solid 64 not out from Roger Pettifer then anchored the Lechlade reply and helped them to a four-wicket victory.

Division Three

Wanborough were surprised by visiting Moredon Royal Oak. The visitors scored 230-4 with Roger Morton 82, Chris Morton 66 and Barry Fellars 42 not out. Wanborough just failed in the resultant run chase, ending on 223-8 with Douglas Millington scoring 45 and Paul Sore 38. Ian Morton took 4-58 in 15 overs for Moredon.

Division Four

Coates were put in to bat by visiting Blunsdon and were promptly bowled out for just 69, with Darren Fisher taking 5-31 in 13 overs. He then hit a rapid 40 not out and with Ian Palmer 24 not out saw Blunsdon to an eight-wicket win.

Wroughton Wranglers' chances were dealt a blow at Ramsbury, who scored 176-9 thanks to Nick Passenger's 43 and Richard Gilligan's 48. Tim McMeekin took 3-21 and Ian Evans 3-40. Passenger responded by taking 4-23 and with Shaun Palmer 3-34 Wroughton were bowled out for 99.

Division Five

Avebury slipped to a surprise defeat at United Churches by three wickets. Paul Gater top scored with 42 for Avebury in their 178-9 as Neil Lang took 4-30 in 15 overs. Dominic Fry responded with 3-25 in his 15 overs, but James Hill (65 not out) and Duncan Mead (45) saw Churches home with just four balls to spare.

Division Six

Leaders Litten Tree scored 203-6 at home to Calne 2nd XI with Colin Blake scoring 82. Julian Brown 5-37 in 12 overs and Steve King 4-29 in 11 then bowled Calne out for 129.

A fine 54 not out from Charlie Doel helped Lacock to 181 all out at Buscot Park 2nds for whom Tony Watts took 5-44 in 15 overs. Buscot then rattled along at nearly six an over as Ronnie Fernandez with 66 and Colin Pratt 50 not out saw them to a five-wicket victory.

Devizes 3rd XI hit a daunting 266-9 at home to lowly Goatacre 3rd XI with Nick Francis leading the way with 93. Andy Langantook 5-37 in 10 overs and 15-year-old Owen Burgess 3-11 in 3.2 overs to bowl Goatacre out for 92.

Division Seven

Bath Civil Service 2nd XI consolidated their mid table position with a seven-wicket win over victors Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nds, who scored 178-5.

Lowly Beanacre 2nd XI were shot out for 59 at home to Nationwide House 2nd XI as Jim Reeves took 8-39 in 13.4 overs. Ian Vardon 23 not out then led Nationwide to an easy nine wicket win.

Division Eight

Leaders Beehive Bradford look well set for promotion as they scored 194-8 at home to Swindon 4th XI. Mick Spong 45, Jim Doherty 38 not out and John Shepherd 38 were the leading scorers. Lee Hamley then took 5-33 in 13 overs, Andy Goddard 3-14 in six and Jim 2-12 in seven as Swindon slipped to 61 all out.

Cherhill 2nd XI consolidated second place with a five-wicket victory over visitors Wootton Bassett 4th XI. Bassett scored 179-8 with Garry Emms 54 top scoring. Tim Carpenter with 4-40 in 12 overs was the pick of the home side's bowlers. Cherhill then raced away at six runs an over and with Carpenter (34) and Pat Andrews (41) leading the way, the runs were knocked off in 34 overs.

The mid table encounter between Biddestone 3rd XI and Highworth 2nds went in favour of Biddestone. Highworth scored 156 all out, with Andy Horn scoring 38. Chris Jones took 3-33. With Neil Millard 40, Doug Miller 35 not out and Kevin Mitchell 24 Biddestone scored the runs for the loss of five wickets with 11 overs to spare.

At the foot of the table Bathford 2nd XI entertained United Churches 2nds and scored 121 with Mike Hunter 30 top scoring. For Churches Adam Paprocki took 7-33 in 15 overs. Paul Duffy 24 not out and Adam Rumbold 23 not out then steered the visitors to a six-wicket success.
