THE first of six awards to be given to Swindon's unsung heroes by the Mayor of Swindon is due to be presented this week.
The winner of the Citizen of Swindon Young Person Award will be announced at tomorrow's council meeting by the Mayor, Stan Pajak.
The scheme was his idea and will continue throughout his mayorship until May.
At each council meeting, an award will be announced to recognise people who have made a contribution to their communities.
The next award to be given out will be the Good Neighbour category. The closing date for nominations is September 12 and the winner will be announced on September 26.
The other categories are: Carer in the Community Award, Environmental Award, Sporting Achievement Award and the Work for Charity Award.
