DRINKER Julian Brokenshire is to see a specialist to address his alcohol problems after being convicted of drunk and disorderly behaviour for the second time in a week.

Brokenshire, 37, of Field View, Chippenham, pleaded guilty to a breach of the peace last Sunday, when he appeared before North West Wiltshire Magistrates Court, in Chippenham, on Monday.

He was bound over for £100 to keep the peace for six months.

Brokenshire forfeited £50 because he had already been bound over to keep the peace, also for six months, having pleaded guilty at Chippenham magistrates last Thursday to being drunk and incapable.

Michelle Hewitt, prosecuting, said Brokenshire called the police in the early hours of Sunday, saying he was going to beat up his neighbours.

"On arrival officers found a male in the street, that they recognised as the defendant, unsteady on his feet, staggering around in the road, and naked from the waist up," said Ms Hewitt.

She said when approached by officers Brokenshire began shouting incoherently, and it was obvious he was drunk.

"He was saying, I am going to go round and give them a beating," said Ms Hewitt.

She said Brokenshire was told to calm down, but failed to do so, and having been asked to explain himself, was arrested for breach of the peace.

Ms Hewitt said other police officers had to be called to restrain him.

Michael Jeary, defending, said Brokenshire is being treated for depression and is on medication.

Mr Jeary said Brokenshire has continued to drink, while on the drugs, and that has resulted in his behaviour.

He said Brokenshire, who is on benefit, was due to see a drugs and alcohol advisor yesterday, to address his problems.

"He thought his neighbours were going to cause him injury, that's why he called the police, but he ended up being arrested," said Mr Jeary.
