FORMER Bluebirds striker Dave Godley is itching for a return to Hardenhuish Park after leaving Dr Martens League Western Division neighbours Cirencester Town at the end of last season.

Godley was a regular goalscorer for Cirencester last term and wants to step up a level to the Premier Division with the club he left two years ago.

Chippenham were still in the Screwfix Direct League Premier Division when Godley departed, but their heady rise since has seen them win back-to-back promotions .

Godley has been training with the Bluebirds for the past three weeks and turned out in a Chippenham shirt for the first time in 27 months at Calne on Saturday.

He has yet to agree a deal with manager Tommy Saunders, but is keeping his fingers crossed that his former boss will give him another chance.

Said Godley: "I'll see what happens. I haven't really spoken to Tommy yet, but it was a good buzz to be out there again on Saturday.

"I left Cirencester at the end of last season basically because I wanted to play at a higher level. I've got a lot of friends there but I want to play in the Premier Division.

"I has a good time the last time I was at the club. They were strong side last season when I played against them for Ciren and I just want to be part of it.

"The training has been really well organised. There are a few good players here, but not too many that played in the Vase final.

"I think Tweeds (Steve Tweddle) and Shane Andrews are the only ones still here."

Godley twice came close to scoring for the Bluebirds at Calne on Saturday, seeing a 35th minute effort cannon back off an upright.

He said: "The one that hit the post I though had gone in, but overall I was happy with the way it went and we were pleased with the result."
