FORMER Chippenham Town stalwart John Woods has ended speculation regarding his future by signing for Screwfix Direct League Premier Division Paulton Rovers.

The 30-year-old midfield terrier has been courted by a string of clubs since announcing his decision to leave the Bluebirds last month due to the increased travelling time involved in the Dr Martens League Premier Division.

Brislington were just one of the club chasing Woods' signature, but he has opted for Paulton after attending training sessions at the Athletic Ground.

Woods is pleased to have finally made his decision and hopes his new club can challenge for honours.

He said: "I had a few offers, but I have gone for Paulton because the manager there has been very persistent and they did quite well last year.

"I've been training there and have enjoyed the sessions. I seemed to get on well with the players straight away and also enjoyed the friendly at Calne on Thursday night.

"I actually scored as well, so the manager Paul Hirons probably thinks he's signed a free-scoring midfielder. I'll soon put him right on that one."

Woods, whose goals at Hardenhuish Park were few and far between, still has fond memories of his time with the Bluebirds and is aiming to return as a spectator next season.

He said: "The Screwfix will be a bit of a step down from the level I was at last year, but it was my decision to do it. I'll still look out for Chippenham's results and am hoping to get over there for a midweek game or when I have a Saturday off."
