THE mystery of how prehistoric flints were successfully used as tools was revealed at an annual archaeology day at the Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Devizes on Saturday.

John Tucker, of Chippenham, a specialist in prehistoric flint tools, gave a presentation about how flints and various tools were produced and invited visitors to examine some of the tools.

More than 60 people took part in the special activities staged as part of the Council for British Archaeology's annual National Archaeology Days.

The Wiltshire Heritage museum is a pilot centre for the new BBC online archaeology trails which can be visited on the museums' public access computer.

The BBC online archaeological trails combine interactive games and quizzes and articles that are designed to educate and inform.

The museum hopes to run another archaeology day next year.
