Manchester United under 19s were 3-0 winners over Cirencester's own band of talented teenagers last night.

Another heaving crowd at the Corinium Stadium witnessed an extremely impressive United side bossed by former Old Trafford great Brian McClair.

But Ciren's own under 19 side will take plenty from the game after competing well against one of the country's elite group of starlets.

The damage was done during a stunning first eight minutes, when powerful forward Colin Heath struck twice in quick succession - the second of which was an absolute screamer.

After that, Ciren overcame the fear factor and created good chances of their own.

Erron Dussard grazed the bar from 10 yards, likewise Adam Mayo, and defender James Constable was only denied by a fine Luke Steele save.

The hosts were less productive after the break, and McClair's youngsters regained control.

After bossing possession for long periods, a moment of sublime Red Devil magic settled the friendly.

Left winger Kieran Richardson picked the ball up on the half-way line and tore through the Ciren defence at pace before firing a low drive beyond the reach of Rob Evans.

So which of the youngsters on show will be gracing the top flight in the coming years?

Two-goal Heath obviously has promise, although his considerable size gives him an advantage over rival youngsters who have yet to fill out.

Fellow goalscorer Richardson looks a very exciting prospect - pacy, direct and with an eye for goal. But it was playmaker Danny Byrne, 17, who really caught the eye.

McClair was quick to praise the new set up at Cirencester.

"I've been most impressed by the facility here and the football that goes on in the community is a wonderful enterprise," he said.

"We were quite happy to come down and play a game and we'll gladly do so again."
