AS the wedding of the Bride of the Year 2002 draws nearer, preparations are continuing apace.

Keeping the rings safe before the ceremony will be groom David McCarron's Intel work colleague and friend, Mick Furey.

Originally from Dublin, best man Mick and groom David, 27, have known each other for seven years.

Bride Katrina, 25, said: "Mick is quite a character.

"My wedding ring matches my engagement ring it is going to be white and yellow gold."

The rings should be in good hands with Mick.

He said: "I have been a best man once before for a Danish friend in Dublin.

"We are looking forward to Katrina and David's big day.

"I have known David since he first started at Intel.

"I had been working there probably a couple of years and he had joined as a placement student.

"We just started hanging around together just a couple of wasters!"

In fact, Mick and David often go skiing with their respective partners.

Mick, 31, is quite laid back about his speech.

"Everybody is going on about it at the moment, but I haven't actually done it yet.

"I don't think you need to write these things well in advance.

"I won't leave it until the last minute but I don't think it is going to be difficult.

"It is really a matter of what I can get away with saying!

"I think it is one of those things were you can't go too badly wrong I am sure that everyone will be enjoying themselves too much to care.

Mick has been responsible for organising the stag weekend in Amsterdam.

He said: "I organised most of that, and I use the word 'organise' loosely!

"We have booked a hotel and a flight."

The rings for Mick's safekeeping, have been provided by Deacons of Wood Street.

Owner, Richard Deacon, provided the happy couple with expert help in choosing their rings.

He is delighted to be involved with the Evening Advertiser's Bride of the Year 2002.

He said: "We have provided wedding rings to the lucky winners for certainly the last few years.

"We are always very pleased to be involved with Bride of the Year."
