CORRECT me if I'm wrong but about three weeks ago, the Evening Advertiser ran a story reporting that teachers and classroom assistants would be starting work in our schools without the necessary clearance by the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau).

As a governor of a Swindon school, I have just received a letter from Swindon Council saying that from September 2002 all potential governors in Swindon schools will have to have clearance from the CRB.

So parents of Swindon school children can rest assured that all governors who will very rarely ever come face to face with your child will have been cleared as having no criminal record, but the teachers and classroom assistants who have daily contact, will have not.

Am I missing something here?
