WHEN some schools in Swindon are bursting at the seams it is quite ironic that there are plans which might see others close.

Those which face the axe are in West Swindon where there are falling rolls among young people so it is the primary schools which are under threat.

Cutting pupil numbers has already started at some schools and while the director of education has promised to look at this delicate issue he has admitted that closing some schools is a possibility.

We agree that it would make sense to get rid of the mobile classrooms which are never the ideal environment in which to learn.

But before a single school closes or others merge it is vital that a plan is drawn up with closure the very last option.

As Mr Simpson said the key is to get the best education for every pupil with the resources available.

We could not agree more.
