MARLBOROUGH bounced back from last week's disappointing defeat at the hands of Purton with an eight-run win over visitors Lydney on Saturday 27 July.

Home skipper Tom Norris lost the toss, but was surprised when Lydney opted to field first on a hot day

Openers Norris and Turnell started quickly, putting on 48 in the first ten overs before Norris was adjudged run out for 17.

Matt Kimble came to the crease and struggled at first, taking 24 balls to get off the mark, but once his first run came the runs flowed.

The Australian built a steady partnership with Turnell before the latter was caught behind with the score on 107.

The ever reliable Clark scored a gritty 27 and with Kimble eventually going for 72. Day and Cock ended unbeaten on 18 and ten respectively, leaving Marlborough on 196 for four.

Lydney began their reply in positive mood with their overseas player from New Zealand despatching Kimble and Cock to the boundary on a regular basis.

The crucial wicket of the Lydney dangerman came following the introduction of spinners Fox and Head into the attack.

Fox was the successful bowler, having the impressive overseas man caught and bowled for 77.

After that the wickets started to fall, with Kimble taking four for 38. Head and Fox took two wickets apiece to help account for the tail.

Only one other batsman truly troubled the scorers as Lydney fell just short on 184 all out.
