SKATEBOARDERS are unhappy that the ramps from the former skate park in Hillworth Park, Devizes, have been left on waste ground at the Hopton Park Industrial Estate.

The town council was ordered to remove the equipment after resident Bill Richardson won a county court case in February.

In March, town council clerk Sarah Todhunter told town councillors that the skateboard equipment was stored in a safe and secure place.

But on Friday, skateboarders found the equipment on the waste ground and some have tried to use the ramps.

BMX rider Paul Stone, 31, of The Brittox, Devizes, said: "The equipment has been dumped up there and because of the sharp edges it is not safe to use. I don't believe the equipment is being taken care of and that is not what I was led to believe would happen."

Skateboarder Andy Cunliffe, 15, of Hillworth Road, said: "I couldn't believe it when I saw it. It is in bits and has been dumped in long grass."

Contractors Gaiger Brothers removed the equipment from Hillworth Park at the end of February.

Mrs Todhunter said it was never intended for the equipment to be stored in a building, but she had expected it to be stored in a fenced compound to ensure it was secure and safe from damage.

Town council manager Simon Fisher said there had been a breakdown in communications between the council and Gaiger.

"They didn't fully understand our requirements but the equipment is now being moved to a secure site," he said.
