STEAM enthusiasts from Trowbridge and Westbury were able to experience the magic of the bygone railway era on Sunday, July 28.
Steam locomotive BR Standard 2-6-0 No. 76079, affectionately known as The Pocket Rocket, passed through the towns on its way from Bristol to Exeter St Davids.
The engine will spend its annual summer holiday hauling The Dawlish Donkey series of trains along the Dawlish sea wall.
For youngsters it was an opportunity to see a real Thomas the Tank Engine, while for others it was the chance to take a trip back in time.
The engine left Bristol, picking up at Bath Spa, Trowbridge, Westbury and Frome before taking the line to Yeovil and the hard climb through Crewkerne.
After running through Chard and Axminster it faced the hard haul up and over a 1 in 80 bank.
The train back was hauled by Class 37 37197, which made a rare appearance on the main line.
The trip was organised by Past-Time Rail.
