IT will be a scorer's nightmare at Erlestoke on Sunday when a cricket team made up from one family take to the field.

Members of the Edwards family have been playing for teams in Westbury, Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon teams for the past 35 years, but on Sunday come together to form their own family team.

The four brothers John, David, Geoff and Trevor will be joined by Tom Edwards, Sam Edwards and Ben Edwards the three sons of David and Steve Edwards, who is Geoff's son.

Making up the XI will be Charles and Oliver Thomas, the sons of Susan Thomas (nee Edwards) and Malcolm Mullender, husband of Helen, another Edwards before her marriage.

Together they form a formidable and well-balanced line-up.

The four brothers and Tom Edwards have all scored centuries and most of them have been regular wicket takers in club cricket.

Nine still turn out regularly for club sides.

The annual match, organised in turn by one of the four brothers, is held as near as possible to their mum Anne's birthday.

The six previous matches have resulted in three wins, one draw, one tie and one defeat.

"It's a nice family occasion, but we do take it seriously, particularly among ourselves," said Geoff.

"David and I have been arguing since we were kids, so one of the rules is that we don't field on the same side of the wicket.

"Years ago, when we were teenagers, we put on a 119 partnership together and all but one of the runs came in boundaries because each of us refused to run when the other hit it."
