Bill Calthrop talks to Robert Reeve of estate agents Philip Andrews about his 1997 BMW 1.6 SE

How long have you owned it?

18 months

What made you choose it?

Many reasons. The build quality can't be beaten, it has all the extras, the exterior design appeals to me and I like the way the cabin is built round the driver, with everything in reach and visible.

Does it have a name?

Yes Car.

What do you like best about it?

Reliability and safety. It's a class act.

So what does the car tell us about you?

That I'm a quality product and reliable in work and play!

What do you like listening to when driving?

A bit of everything really.

How often do you clean your car?

Not often, once every three weeks or so.

When you do clear it out, what sort of things do you find?

Coins and sweet wrappers, the former being mine, no prizes for guessing the latter.

Any accidents?

Apart from a slight rear end shunt on Christmas morning, nothing. It would be fair to say that the other driver didn't say wish me a Merry Christmas nor I him! Fortunately, the damage was only slight.

What about parking tickets?

One in my life, never in that car, but then I have off street parking at work.

What do other drivers do that you hate most?

I hate Roundabout Rovers, people who don't read the road, stopping and dawdling as they ponder who has the right of way when it is clearly marked.

May others smoke in your car?

No.

And your ultimate dream car?

An Aston Martin. There's nothing better than that. Or perhaps a mint Jensen Interceptor FF. Now that really was a car!

What celebrity would you like most to give a lift to?

Linda Lusardi, for all the obvious reasons. But probably top of the list would be Oliver Cromwell for the strength of his beliefs and character and ability to follow them through. He would have to be an interesting person to listen to on a long drive and I'm sure he would appreciate the build-quality of my BMW!
