A LEADING tyre manufacturer is looking for the oldest tyres in regular use on any vehicle.

This follows the discovery that Welsh farmer Allan Davies has had the same pair of Goodyear tyres on his tractor since May 1968.

Mr Davies said: "One of the tyres has even had a four-inch long cut in it for the past 20 years."

Aged 75, Mr Davies still uses his trusty Ford 3000 for baling, mowing and hay-making.

His tractor has had a few sets of front tyres, but the rear-drive tyres have never been changed.

Goodyear manager Ron Pike said: "We're not sure, but 34 years of regular service must surely be a record for any farm tyre. That's why we'd like readers to tell us if they can beat that.

"If anyone can prove their tyres in regular use on any kind of vehicle are older than Mr Davies', we'd like to know.

"And for the customer with the oldest working Goodyear tyres in the UK we'll give them a brand new set for their vehicle."

If any Driving Times reader can beat Mr Davies' record, let us know on (01225) 352486 and we will pass on your information to Goodyear.
