Swindon Supermarine are still without a Western Division win after losing 2-0 to Merthyr Tydfil.

The Welshmen enjoyed a fairly comfortable victory at Hunts Copse, as Marine's struggling attack failed to find the target for the third successive game.

Kevin Evans put the former Conference side ahead midway through the first half.

The Marine defence failed to clear a Merthyr free-kick, and Evans was on hand to volley home.

The hosts protested as Steve Davis was laid out injured at the time and the referee's assistant had flagged for the defender to receive treatment but the goal stood.

The visitors doubled their lead on the hour when Jason Price rose to head home at the far post.

Marine had a couple of late chances to reduce arrears. Tate Hulbert recalled from his brief loan spell with Highworth looked sharp and linked up well with Steve Bennett, who came close to scoring on two occasions.

Midfielder Gary Swann had the best chance to pull one back, but as the ball sat invitingly for him, he missed the ball all together with a fresh air shot that summed up Marine's season so far.

Manager John Murphy has now seen his side slip to the foot of the table with just one point from six outings so far this season.

Supermarine's youngsters host their Bath City counterparts in the FA Youth Cup tonight, kick off 7.30pm.
