BUSINESSES and people looking for work had the chance to meet under one roof at the Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News Job Fair in Trowbridge yesterday.

The event attracts interest from hundreds of people who hope to find work of all kinds.

Representatives from more than 30 businesses with hundreds of jobs on offer were on hand at the Civic Hall between 10am and 7pm.

Wiltshire Times classified advertising manager Lisa Wrintmore, who organised the Job Fair, said: "It is a fantastic day and we had over 30 exhibitors. The event is always busy with hundreds of people looking for work.

"We had a lot of interest from employers who in the past have said it is a very useful way to meet prospective employees face to face. Many have had a lot of success at the Wiltshire Times job fairs over the years."

Adding another dimension to the event Warminster-based radio station 3TRfm were on hand broadcasting live from the Civic Hall between 10am and 2pm.

Cosmetics packing firm Acheson and Acheson, which also markets and designs products for Boots and The Body Shop, was hoping to recruit between 30 and 40 packers up to Christmas.

The business has premises on the White Horse Business Park, Trowbridge and in Melksham.

Personnel manager Chantal Dent said: "We have 48 permanent marketing staff and about 230 temporary workers.

"This is the first time we have attended the Job Fair and we normally advertise in the Wiltshire Times.

"We are hoping to recruit about 30 or 40 people."

Another firm attending for the first time was Trowbridge-based Cougar Security.

Chairman Shane Vowles said: "We are now working on more sites and need to recruit more people.

"We have been going five years and went Ltd last year and we are expanding all the time.

"We are looking for security guards and once people join there is the chance to work in different sections. We have a dog section and provide personal security."
