SEAT will reveal the new generation Cordoba on September 26, at the Paris Motor Show. The Cordoba is the latest model to adopt the new SEAT family look, first seen on the new Ibiza, and due on UK sale in spring 2003.

Roomier than its predecessor, the new Cordoba retains its classic four door, sedan body configuration. The wheelbase is 17 mm longer and it is 58 mm wider than its predecessor: extra space that has been used to create a larger interior and a boot capacity increased by 30 litres.

To increase its driver appeal, the new Cordoba has exciting looks, enhanced comfort, greater safety, improved aerodynamics (an outstanding Cd value of 0.30), a more sporty chassis and a wide range of new engines.

The new engine line-up comprises petrol and diesel options, ranging in output from 75 to 130 bhp. The most potent Cordoba is powered by a 130 bhp (96 kW) 1.9-litre high-performance turbo-diesel, mated to a six-speed gearbox. The other engines are the 100 bhp (74 kW) 1.9 TDi and an efficient, 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol unit developing 75 bhp (55 kW). The new Cordoba will be available in two trim and equipment levels: Stella, Sport.

Central to the Cordoba's dynamic handling is the Agile Chassis, a new chassis concept developed by SEAT's Martorell Technical Centre and which has already proven its effectiveness in the new Ibiza and Leon Cupra R models.

The Agile Chassis combines carefully tuned suspension ratings, revised geometry and an electronically controlled intelligent programme that adapts the level of power assistance for the steering to the driving conditions. This guarantees more precise handling and delivers a faster, more effective response to driver input.

The new SEAT Cordoba is further evidence of SEAT's drive to design cars brimming with a sporty character, as first demonstrated in the masterful lines of the Salsa and Tango concept-cars.
