SWINDON people have a rare chance to visit a host of architectural treasures in the town this weekend, from the 13th century Holy Rood Church to the ultra modern Cellular Operations building.

The annual Heritage Open Days 2002, which sees more than 2,000 different buildings across the country opening their doors to the public across the country, is funded by English Heritage.

Swindon sites include:

The 13th century Holy Rood Church in Old Town, which will open its doors between 10am and 4pm on Sunday. Short tours of the site will be conducted by Brian Bridgeman from the Swindon Society.

The headquarters of Cellular Operations in Century Road, Hillmead, the multi award-winning call centre which has also been singled out as one of the Independent Newspaper's 50 best buildings in the UK. Tours will be held every 30 minutes from 10.30 am until 5pm tomorrow and Sunday. Pre-book on 01793 546229.

Coleshill Model Farm which was built as an example of best agricultural practice in 1854. The farm is complete with granary and stockyards on a split level site and also has a water mill. It is open on today, tomorrow and Sunday is on the B4019 between Highworth and Faringdon.

Lydiard House and park, the former ancestral home of the Boling-brokes, off junction 16 of the M4. The house is open from 10am-5pm tomorrow and 11am-5pm on Sunday.

Royal Military College of Science Library at Beckett Manor House Shrivenham, a lakeside manor dating from the 1830s.

The college is just off the A420 between Swindon and Oxford and will be open on Sunday from 10am until 3pm. Call 01793 785484 to book.

Wroughton Science Museum at Wroughton Airfield, the former WWII airfield and now Science Museum. Attractions include guided tours, model aircraft displays and a display by Royal Observer Corps Museum Trust.

The museum will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 5pm.
