We have recently seen that that film classifications have changed to incorporate a new 12A which will allow younger children accompanied by an adult to see films with a possible sexual content.

Although this has caused concern for some parents it is important to remember children are being regularly bombarded with sexual images through advertising, television and music.

At Parentline Plus we recognise parents may feel uncomfortable with the images their children could be seeing but feel what we can do as parents is talk about what we see with our children to counter balance this.

However we understand it can be difficult for parents to embark on such conversations which is why we have trained call takers on our confidential free helpline (0808 800 2222) to offer support and have produced a leaflet with other tips and hints on getting started which are also available on our website www.parentlineplus.org.uk
