THE 5,000 home northern development took another step forward last night when councillors gave the green light to two major building projects in Taw Hill.

The Oxford, Swindon and Gloucester Co-op has been given permission to start work on the seven shops that will comprise Taw Hill Village Centre.

The centrepiece will be one large unit, expected to be a small supermarket, and six smaller shops.

The application also includes eight flats and parking spaces for 74 cars, eight motorcycles and six bicycles.

A church and 210 place primary school have already been granted planning permission for the centre.

And in more good news for residents of one of Swindon's newest villages, Taw Hill Medical Practice, currently housed in a temporary building, was given approval for a building which will include 13 consulting rooms, two rooms for minor operations, a physiotherapy room, baby clinic and waiting, administration and storage rooms.
