The comment of Matthew Mason about the origins of Easter were interesting, but did not give the full picture.

For the two billion Christians who celebrate Easter as the time when Christ rose from the dead, he is the reason for the season.

The point of it happening when it does is not because it is the spring time, but due to the Passover, a Jewish festival originated in the distant times of the Jewish release from captivity in Egypt, and some would say beyond that. It was at the Passover time when Jesus was betrayed, crucified and rose again.

I do not doubt the history of Eostre and the Saxon celebrations of her prowess, but it is not 'factual' to diminish the Christian message at this time, even though we as a culture prefer to worship at the altar of chocolate and bunnies and home improvements.
