TEENAGE golfer Toby Crews has become the first player to achieve an albatross at the 300-yard 14th hole at Farrington.
His first hole-in-one was a spectacular affair. The long, narrow green is guarded by a bunker across the approach. On this occasion the hole was cut on the front left of the green.
He said: "I hit a high draw with my driver, the ball pitched just short of the sand and bounced onto the green.
"We turned away until we heard a resounding thud as the ball struck the pin. If it hadn't hit the flag the ball would probably have been lost.
"We couldn't see the ball on the green so I assumed it was either through the back or in the hole. Luckily for me it was my first ace."
Toby, 19 from Chilcompton, has been a member for six years, plays off 16 and has been working at Farrington as a security guard and in the clubhouse until recently.
He was playing in a friendly fourball with the club's trainee assistant professional Paul French, Adrian Raikes and Rick Kefford, fellow members of the club's Wessex League team.
The club's assistant pro Ryan Blannin, who has been at Farrington since the club opened, confirmed that the feat had never been achieved before.
