Durham's hopes of blasting out Gloucestershire were confounded by their own pitch at Chester-le-Street.

The easy-paced surface at the Riverside, which stages its inaugural Test in June, was not to the liking of Steve Harmison, who was in his 19th over before he took his only wicket.

On the day he was awarded an England central contract, Harmison bowled Swindon's Jon Lewis off his pads five overs from the close to finish with 1-33 in 22 overs as Gloucestershire closed on 285-9.
