THE long awaited extra sports field in Wilcot Road in Pewsey should be in use by the autumn, the annual parish meeting heard.

Coun Denis Sweasey presented a report on the Angela Yeates Memorial Ground that the council recently purchased.

He referred to the lack of co-operation the parish council had received from the National Playing Fields Association, which it had been hoped would take over ownership of the land to prevent it ever being developed.

Coun Sweasey said: "We decided in February this year not to go down this route but to develop the sports facilities ourselves."

New pedestrian and vehicular accesses were under construction, said Coun Sweasey and should be finished by the end of May.

He said: "We would like to have that ground ready and playable for the Pewsey Vale rugby club and the Saints Sunday football club to start playing in August this year."
