CHIPPENHAM Town will ask the Dr Martens League to take no action against Kent side Welling United following the vandalism of the officials' dressing room door at Hardenhuish Park.

The two sides served up a bad-tempered encounter on Monday night and the officials' locked door was kicked open by an angry member of the visiting party moments after the players left the field.

Chippenham rounded off their home league campaign with a 4-0 win and were in a celebratory mood, while Welling left the field after having eight players booked and goalkeeper Glen Knight sent off four minutes from the end.

Bristol referee Nevil Brimmings was holding court with assistants Nick Dalkins and Stephen Whittaker inside the dressing room when the incident happened.

The officials' dressing room is situated adjacent to that of the away side at Hardenhuish Park, but Welling staff protested their innocence afterwards.

Mr Brimmings will include the incident in his report to both the Football Association and the Dr Martens League.

But although the Bluebirds have also notified league secretary Dennis Strudwick of the damage done to the latch mechanism on the door, they have also requested no further action be taken. Chippenham chairman Chris Blake said: "If you are not careful you can end up getting into silly situations with clubs from now on and that is something we don't want to happen."

Chippenham travel to Halesowen for their final game of the season on Saturday.
