DEVIZES go into the new cricket season on the back of three successive friendly wins following a close victory over Warminster on Saturday 26 April.

Winning the toss, Devizes skipper Mark Colyer had no hesitation in putting Warminster in on a wicket that due to the weather, had been covered for the previous two days.

Warminster's innings started in entertaining fashion, with West Indian batsmen Adams making his intentions clear right from the word go, favouring the onside boundary, as he unleashed a number of agricultural but effective boundaries.

The introduction of newcomer Mark Banham to the bowling attack, soon saw the departure of Adams, trapped in front for a bright 41.

From there, Warminster struggled against the seam attack of Devizes, with Bateman scoring a classy knock of 56, helped by a last wicket stand of 23 with Shuttlewood, taking Warminster to a total of 133 all out.

Wickets were shared, with James Ashford-Brown, Mark Banham and Alex Muse sharing 2 wickets apiece, and Paul Vooght taking the other wicket. Joe Hickey bowled well, his 5 tidy overs going for only 14 runs at the death.

In reply, two sparkling cover drives by Andy Hodder took Devizes off to a useful start, but a slower ball from South African Harvey, saw Hodder caught at mid-wicket. Two balls later, Paul Stobbart was back into the pavilion, bowled of an inside edge by the same bowler.

With Dan Langan departing two overs later, Devizes were in trouble chasing a low total, but Colyer with 31, helped by 27 from James Ashford-Brown and 25 from Paul Vooght looked to take Devizes to a comfortable victory.

The introduction of Warminster's second string bowlers however seemed to make the Devizes batsmen lose concentration, as wickets tumbled with a few rash shots, but with Alex Muse stroking a couple of exquisite boundaries and Mark Sinclair hitting the winning runs, taking Devizes to victory with 16 overs to spare, and five minutes before the heavens opened.
