CORSHAM were unable to build on a promising Easter programme as they came unstuck on Chard's notorious sloping pitch.

The visitors found themselves two behind at the break despite playing down the Zembard Lane slope, but pulled one back in the second half through Rob Humphries. Simon Baines headed a late third to clinch the points.

Joint-boss Dave King said: "It was a big disappointment We just didn't play, squandered possession throughout and suffered from a lack of quality in the first half.

"We went a goal down after some woeful marking from a throw-in, and the third goal was terrible. It came from our own throw-in."

Corsham gave a full debut to teenager Gary Blackwood at sweeper and he was one of few players to emerge with any credit.

The home team broke the deadlock after 27 minutes when John Ritchie headed home Paul Nicholls' centre.

Corsham defender Brian Kayll was then denied by a wonder save from goalkeeper Tom Manley, and Chard increased their lead through Rob Davis in the seventh minute of first half stoppage time.

Humphries halved the deficit from the spot after he was fouled in the area, but Chard held firm and Baines' header sealed their win.

Corsham travel to Weston St Johns for their final game of the season tomorrow night, kick off 6.30pm.
