CALNE'S junior cricket teams were bowled over when they realised how much they raised packing customers bags in Somerfields Easter weekend.
Dressed in their cricket whites, 18 boys from Calne Cricket Club's under 11s, 13s and 15s assisted customers at the store, in Mill Street, in a hat-trick of three-hour packing sessions on Friday and Saturday.
Customers were invited to place a donation to the club's youth section, which was set up two-years ago, in a batting helmet offered by one of the younger players.
The youth section, which has 60 members, raised a total of £546. Ann Richards, wife of Calne Cricket Club's 1st XI captain, who organised the event said she was delighted with the boys' performance, and they enjoyed themselves.
"The brilliant thing about it was that we put ourselves in the public eye," she said. "A lot of people approached us and said they didn't know Calne Cricket Club had a youth section."
Mrs Richards said the money might go towards kit for the teams or towards a bowling machine which costs £2,000.
