YOUNGSTERS at a village Brownie group marked the end of a community project by handing over a cheque for £200.

The 1st Worton and Marston Brownies received a grant from Worton Parish Council towards equipment and activities and as a thank you the group decided to plant trees, which the parish council had bought.

About 20 Brownies planted more than 20 trees on land bought by the parish council at Whatleys Close.

They were sponsored for the task by family and friends and altogether they raised £200 to give to the Worton Village Hall committee.

Cathy Hucker, a helper at the Brownie unit, said the group met each week in the hall and knew how important it was to the community.

She said: "The Brownies enjoyed planting the trees. It was a nice day and it helped them to learn more about their local area."
