DEVIZES MP Michael Ancram pledged to continue fighting for a new hospital in Devizes after meeting campaigners.
Mr Ancram met with five campaigners in Devizes last Thursday.
They were Judy Rose of Devizes Guardians and Devizes Action to Save our Hospital, Lavington GP Dr James Flood and mums Eleanor Christmas of Marlborough, Becky Veall of Market Lavington and Angie Tinker of Bulkington.
They are all concerned that the Kennet and North Wiltshire Primary Care Trust's proposals for a new health facility at Green Lane will result in a glorified health centre and nursing home and not a hospital.
Mr Ancram has told the trust he wants to see a maternity unit, intermediate care beds and a minor injuries unit provided as a minimum.
Meanwhile, health union Unison has started a petition to save services at the hospital.
The union, which represents some nurses and admin staff, does not believe the proposals unveiled by the trust for the new health facility at Green Lane will result in a hospital.
Senior steward Roger Daveysaid: "I can't see how the trust will not make people redundant. The trust talks about redeploying staff but where will they be deployed to?"
