VAL Hillier was on top form in the Wednesday Club match at Bourton on the Water.

She netted a personal best catch when she took 108lb of carp, using a short pole and catmeat as bait.

Mick Robins was next with 84lb on the pole and pellet. Third was Colin Dunn with 73lb.

There were many disappointed anglers in the first open at Greenhill Fishery near Wootton Bassett on Saturday.

Cold driving winds caused the fish to close their mouths but Wootton Bassett angler Trish Lewis, using a maggot and sweetcorn combination, took the day's top catch of 5lb 2oz, consisting of two carp and one bream giving her the winner-take-all pick up.

Second was Tim Rust, whose 3-12-0 was made up of one carp.

Third was Trish's husband Dave with 3-9-0.

Local hotelier Simon Collins was well below the pace until the last half-hour of the Tockenham Wednesday Open.

Collins then added 41lb in just three fish, one of 18-3-0, another of 14lb, and finished up with a 9lb carp. His final weight of 63-5-0 just beat Larry Laing's 60-13-0.

Third place went to Malcolm Ockwell, who included a carp in his catch of 35-14-0.

Peatmoor won the match against the Three Counties by 22lb 3oz to 20lb 12oz. Top weight went to Kevin Franklin (Three Counties) with 7lb 4oz.

Runner up with 6lb 9oz was Richard Reeves (Three Counties) and in third place with 6lb 7.5oz was Martyn Howard (Peatmoor). Fourth place went to Bob Gould (Peatmoor) with 5lb 14.5oz.

The BCA's match was held on the Large Lake at Ivy House and ended up a close affair, with Dave Keen's weight of 12-12-0 just fending off Paul Hunt 12-6-0. Graham Rose was third with 11-8-0 and fourth was Bert Page 10-8-0.
