THE SUN will not be shining on Swindon over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Sancha Tetlow, of the Met Office, said: "Swindon will have a mixture of sun and showers and will be breezy, with temperatures of around 14 to 15 degrees Celsius."

Saturday and Sunday will be mainly cloudy, while Monday will bring moderate showers.

Those seeking better weather can hop aboard a First Great Western seaside special service.

The service will run once a day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday to and from the popular Devon resorts of Torquay and Paignton.

The train operator is not forecasting any delays.

For those staying in town, the Swindon Festival of Literature kicks off on Monday with Magnus Magnusson and the inside story of Britain's longest running radio soap opera, The Archers.

On Monday Wootton Bassett and District Lions Club is holding a May Day fair at Lydiard Country Park from 11.30am to 5pm on Monday. Admission is £4 for adults and £1 for children. For more information call 01249 812710

The AA says the only major roadworks affecting the town are on the M4. There are lane closures on the westbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16.

At junction 16, a lane is closed on the eastbound entry slip road.

There are also roadworks in Swindon on Queen's Drive in Walcot, on the A419 in Penhill and in Manchester Road.

Alvina Kumar, spokesperson for Swindon police, said: "We do not have any major roadworks at the moment, and are not expecting any to start before the weekend. But motorists should still allow plenty of time for their journey."
