JUGGLING balls and novelty cushions have given an award- winning start to a company run by Swindon pupils.

Red Nova was set up by a group of 15 Year Ten students, aged 14 and 15, at Kingsdown School in Stratton St Margaret, as part of the Young Enterprise Scheme.

And the firm, which sells custom-made novelty cushions and juggling balls made from balloons and rice, have now equalled the school's best performance by winning the North West Wiltshire heat of the competition. They will be in the county final to held at Burmah Castrol next Thursday.

To win the heat, five pupils had to give a ten-minute presentation on the company and how it had coped with any difficulties. The firm also had to submit a company report and set up a stall selling their wares for the judges to view.

Teacher Dr Lynne Plant said: "Young Enterprise gives students better organisational skills, how to work in a team and, most importantly, sees them grow in confidence. The school has been running Young Enterprise for 15 years and the county finals is the best we have ever done so we are delighted Red Nova have equalled that."
