Many of your readers will join me in mourning the decision of the Government's planning inspector to permit such extensive development in Devizes' Quakers Walk area.
It is the existence of such open spaces which lends towns like Devizes their character and uniqueness.
The recreational opportunities the area offered were easily accessible to many of the walkers in the town, who will now need to walk (or, sadly drive) further afield for their pleasure.
It means that we should resist even more fiercely the proposal to site a skate board park on The Green.
Such a development would bring with the requirement for concrete or Tarmac and lighting effectively "industrialising" one of the town's outstanding features.
Why the skateboard facilities could not be integrated with the major extension to outdoor facilities currently taking place behind the leisure centre will remain a mystery to many.
