SCRABBLE players raised £2,000 for the Prospect Hospice.

The money was the proceeds of a tourna-ment in Swindon which was attended by almost 200 enthusiasts from around the country.

They included six people who have qualified for the world championships in Kuala Lumpur in the autumn.

Nationwide, which is committed to supporting local good causes, allowed its Pipers Way headquarters to be used as the venue.

The tournament was organised by Highworth Scrabble Club, whose chairman Steve Perry, is also a Nationwide employee.

He said: "We were pleased to raise this money for what is a very worthy local cause."

Nationwide has hosted the annual tournament for the past seven years.

Company spokes-woman Michelle Leighton said: "We were delighted to be the host again this year, and are pleased that so much money was raised for so good a cause."
