Barry Austin (Teign Valley) beat Stuart Disney (Torquay) in a thrilling Devon PGA matchplay championship final at Exeter.

Austin burst into a four-hole lead after seven holes, before Disney regained three with successive holes.

The relentless Austin birdied the 13th and 14th to go three up before both players parred the 15th.

But the match finished abruptly at the next hole when Disney conceded the hole after his ball moved on the green as he was about to strike in a three-foot putt that could have extended the match.

Said Austin after his third matchplay win:

"I hadn't noticed that Stuart's ball had moved, so he must be commended for calling the penalty on himself.

"I felt sorry for him as he had played his part in a fantastic final. I was under par in all four games and my short game really got me out of trouble at times."
