YOUTH RUGBY: CHIPPENHAM U13s and U14s tasted Dorset and Wiltshire cup final glory at Supermarine RFC on Sunday afternoon.

But the club's U12s team were unable to add the twin counties title to their already bulging trophy cabinet and went down to defeat in their age group final to Bournemouth.

The U13s took on Swanage and Wareham and ran in nine unanswered tries to hammer the Dorset champions 51-0.

Swanage contributed to an excellent game, especially in the forward exchanges, but their backs were completely outclassed by Chippenham's flying three-quarter line.

From the second minute of the game when outside centre Tom Boreham scythed through the defence to touch down between the posts, Swanage were never able to cope with the pace and handling skills of the Chippenham backs.

Outside centre Callum Fannin and winger Matt Tatara both crossed the line twice, and scrum half Daniel East also scored after taking a quick penalty and sprinting to the line.

But it was skipper Boreham who led the way scoring a further three tries and also converting three for a personal tally of 26 points.

Although all the points came from the backs, the foundation for the victory was laid up front where the Chippenham forwards played extremely well and rarely took a backward step, consistently providing quality possession and key support to the backs.

Coach Jerry Field was delighted for the team and said: "Sunday's result is just reward for all the effort the boys have put in since we started together last August.

"The squad has gone through the whole season without losing a match in any competition and has three trophies to show a fantastic achievement which makes all the work worthwhile."

Chippenham's Under 14s also went into their cup final undefeated this season in any competitive match and claimed their fourth title of the season with a 22-5 victory over Dorset champions Wimborne.

This was a hard and physical game especially amongst the forwards and Chippenham's backs didn't allow the Wimborne backs to make any ground.

Towards the end of the first half, Wimborne were pressing hard and only some good solid defence from Chippenham kept them from crossing the line. The second half was very much a mirror of the first.

But it was Chippenham who opened the scoring first after just five minutes of the start of the match. A dropped ball was picked up by Blackburn who ran in from 35 yards to score in the corner. The try was unconverted.

Wimborne replied shortly afterwards with a try also in the corner by their left winger. This conversion was missed.

Ten minutes before half time, a shortened lineout Bobby Lyons caught the ball and charged over to score. Lee Audis kicked the conversion.

In the second half, Chippenham had to defend their line from the start. But they broke-out and were awarded a penalty for an infringement on the 22 metre line which was converted by Audis.

Five minutes from the end, it was Chippenham's turn to pressurise the Wimborne line.

An attempt to clear the line with a kick was charged by PJ Chapman who collected the ball and ran unchallenged under the posts to score with Audis adding the conversion.

The U12s went into their final against the mighty Bournemouth with for festival and tournament wins already under their belts this season.

But their bid to make it five ended in disappointment as the Dorset side clinched a 35-0 win.

Playing against the wind in the first half seemed to cause Chippenham some problems and Bournemouth took full advantage. Two converted tries by Bournemouth gave them a 14 0 lead at half time.

Chippenham had to contend with trying to bring down much larger and stronger opposition as Bournemouth continually strived to feed the ball to the backs.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Chippenham came back and played with great spirit and determination. They managed to gain a territorial advantage for a while but just could not get the ball across the line.

Some poor tackling enabled Bournemouth to score several more converted tries which saw them home and the overall Dorset & Wilts Under 12 Cup.

Chippenham coach Kev Ingram said: "We played well but our poor tackling made Bournemouth look good. But this was probably one game too many for them at the end of a long season.''
