SALTFORD assistant Darren Read hit the winning trail again in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA meeting at Knowle.

He finished with a plus-six points total in a modified stableford scoring system that offers five points for eagles, two for birdies, none for pars and one and two point penalties for bogeys and double-bogeys.

Read lost shots at the second and ninth but birdied the fourth to be out in level par 35. Three birdies at the 11th, 13th and 17th in a back nine of 32 brought a two-under round of 67.

He was followed by Shirehampton amateur Steve Yorke on two points. Amateurs Spencer Vickery (The Kendleshire) and Ryan French (Wells) were joint third with one point.

David Haines (Brean), Scott Richards (Kendleshire), Gareth Pledger (Yeovil) and home amateur Shane Winstone who recorded five points on the 16th with a net eagle at the 16th, finished fourth on no points.

The annual meeting takes place at Cirencester on Wednesday May 21 after the 36-hole championship.
