SWINDON'S Jon Lewis, on his return from injury, took two Durham wickets as everything went Gloucestershire's way on a rain-interrupted second day at Chester-le-Street.

Durham slumped to 129-7, still needing 62 to avoid the follow-on in the Frizzell County Championship Division Two match.

Jack Russell, who supervised the addition of 98 for the last two wickets, extended his last-wicket stand with Mike Smith to 65 before Gloucestershire were all out for 341.

Demoralised Durham then crumbled to 5-3, losing Michael Gough in the third over, edging Lewis to third slip, then Gary Pratt edged his fourth ball to second slip and Vince Wells was bowled first ball by Lewis.

Nicky Peng struck seven high-class fours in a fearless 37 as he and his captain Jon Lewis put on 75. But then Mark Alleyne's gentle in-swingers earned two wickets as Peng offered a return catch and Law chipped to midwicket.

Andrew Pratt was bowled by Smith and the captain's exit left Durham grateful for the return of rain.
