A RECORD crowd lined the course for this year's Corsham St George's Day 10k race and 5k fun run on Sunday 27 April.

Nearly 450 runners entered the 10k race organised by Corsham Running Club. The course started and finished at Corsham Town Football Club.

In between, runners pounded their way towards Park Lane before turning for home via Leafield Road and Dicketts Road.

This year's race had an international flavour as the men's section was won by a Kenyan serving with the 21st Signal Regiment at Colerne.

Haggai Chepkwony stormed home, an easy winner in 32 minutes 6 seconds, setting a new course record.

Ewen Malloch from Bath, who runs for Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, finished second in a creditable 33 minutes 18 seconds. Third place went to Gary Eagle of South West Vets in 33 minutes 49 seconds. He also was the leading veteran runner.

Corsham's first runner home was Liam Ralph who was also the race's leading junior with a time of 33 minutes 18 seconds.

In the ladies section, which took place alongside the men's, Chippenham Harriers runner Amy Stiles, from Corsham, produced a stunning performance to win in a time of 36 minutes 26 seconds. She was 16th overall and over two minutes ahead of the second placed woman.

The 5k fun run was a Corsham Rotary Club event to raise money for Bath's RUH hospital.

The fun run was won by Colin Woodward.
