WESTBURY: NEW captain Martin Dolman will be looking for a major improvement from his Westbury team this summer.

Westbury were relegated after finishing bottom of Bristol and Somerset Division One at the end of last summer after winning only two of their 16 league games.

"Last season was a big disappointment, but we are looking for a swift return to Division One this season," said long-serving Dolman.

His team will be largely unchanged, although a major blow is the absence of last season's captain Phil Carroll, who will miss the entire season with a shoulder injury.

"Phil's injury will leave a big gap in the bowling attack," said Dolman, who will be hoping some of the club's younger players will come through to fill the boots of the experienced seamer.

"We will have most of the old faces from recent seasons, plus a few youngsters who have come through the youth section.

"We have a couple of promising teenagers in Stuart Lewis and Andy Carroll and we will be looking for a big improvement from them." he said.

"On the batting front I am hoping for a big season from Andy Elliott."

This year's overseas player is 21-year-old South African batsman Alex Hart, who has already demonstrated his potential in pre-season games, scoring 141 against Calne and 80 against Beckington.

Westbury will be running three senior Saturday sides this summer, the 2nds and 3rds playing in the Wiltshire League, and new players will be welcome. Anyone interested in playing for Westbury can contact Dolman on (01373) 825689.

Westbury open their league campaign with a trip to Claverham tomorrow.
